GOOGLE STREET VIEW LAUNCH EAGERLY ANTICIPATED BY SOUTH AFRICAN REAL ESTATE AGENTS RE/MAX

Weary house-hunters will soon have a new tool to aid them in their search for the perfect home.

Following in the footsteps of estate agencies in Australia and Europe, RE/MAX of Southern Africa is anticipating the launch of Google's Street View as technology which will cut down on the effort of finding the perfect home for sale or rent.

"Real estate agencies in Australia are using the technology successfully to enhance their clients' house-hunting experiences. Each year an increased number of South Africans are searching online for property, so this is a natural progression and one which is sure to become popular with agents and the public alike," said RE/MAX CEO Adrian Goslett.

Using Google Earth, Street View provides panoramic views from various positions along streets around the world, allowing users to see a location as if they were standing in the street.

Street View imagery is not real time - it was taken since September last year by specialised vehicles driving around public roads Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town. Google does not announce launch dates but has assured that the product will launch before the Soccer World Cup in June.

"The time-lapse between when the images were taken and now could be a slight drawback for the home seller who only gave his house a fresh paint of coat last week, but the emphasis is on the prospective buyer or tenant being able to scout the neighbourhood without having to get into their car to do so. Street View will allow you to check out amenities such as open spaces, shopping areas and parking to assist you in making an informed decision about the neighbourhood without having to go to show days only to discover your ‘dream home' is next door to a night club," Goslett said.

Consistently recognised as a leader in real estate since their launch in 1995, RE/MAX now has more than 1 500 agents in 160 independently owned and operated franchises across Southern Africa. For more information, visit www.remax.co.za
